Dido Picture

Pencil.
Dido was the queen of Carthage, one of the most powerful female figures in Roman mythology. She fell in love with the hero Aeneas; this was her downfall. She had scorned marriage offers from every neighboring city, and the kings respected her as long as she treated all men indifferently. She poured all of her work into guiding her people and building her city. But when Aeneas came along, she fell for him immediately (thanks a lot, Venus), and began ignoring her duties. When Aeneas left, her city was under threat from all sides because she had taken a foreign lover, thus insulting the surrounding cities. My personal favorite tragic character.
