Phoenix Picture

Phoenix is a fabulous animals from Persian mythology, where it is a symbol of rebirth. It also occurs among the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. The name Phoenix comes from the Greek phoinix which meant "purple" and also is the author of the name Phoenicia, because people who just traded with the popular red dye.

In later interpretations are bird was also a symbol of resurrection, immortality and life after death. The bird looked like a heron, and were often subject to the Roman emperors coins. According to legend, lived only a single specimen of the bird at a time, and it came up with only between 500 and 1000 years respectively.

It was said about the bird that burned itself into they nest. At one point, then resurrected it as its own ashes and rose high in the sky. This is now used figuratively, when you talk about the phoenix.
