Umibozu Picture

Finally I've finished it! This has been a little project I've been working on since April or so, mainly because I've been trying to figure out how to draw waves and boats.

The title pertains to these sea monsters (that may have inspired the Pac-Man ghosts) from Japanese mythology that were the disembodies spirits of drowned monks. They were known to ask sailors if they had a barrel, which if given would be used to sink a ship.

This image was mainly inspired (and slightly copied) from a wood block carving (I think) I found online.

I'm also working on a dry-point etching of this.
