Amphitrite's Diadem Picture

In ancient greek mythology Amphitrite was a sea goddess and the wife of Poseidon. Under the influence of olympian pantheon, she became merely a consort of Poseidon.
In some accounts Amphitrite was a daughter of Nereus and Doris (along with Thetis) and thus a Nereid. In other accounts she was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys and so, an oceanid. Many accounts simply describe her as the female personification of the sea.
Amphitrite's offspring included seals and dolphins, but the most well known was her son Triton, who was born a merman
