PERSEUS - 2. Acrisius, the King of Argos Picture

Acrisius, the King of Argos

Once upon a time, in the ancient city of Argos, the king Acrisius ruled alone. But he had no heirs to follow in his footsteps; only a daughter: the beautiful Danae.

The king could not accept that. He had great ambition and wanted a son to inherit his prosperous city. It was this burning desire that made him travel to Delphi, and ask the high priestess of the Oracle, Pythia. «Not you Acrisius, but your daughter Danae will have a son. And this child will be your undoing!» said the priestess. To prevent this from ever happening, Acrisius gave the order. An underground prison was to be made at the center of the royal palace where he would keep fair Danae.
