As they both rush upon you and
Rip open your flesh
The lion eats his fill and then
The wolf cleans up the mess

~Thrice, The Lion and The Wolf

The great hunter Actaeon happened upon the chaste goddess Artemis bathing in the forest with her maidens. Infuriated, she turned the boastful hunter into a stag and sent his own dogs upon him. Not knowing that the stag was actually their beloved master, the dogs feasted upon him.

Apparently Chiron the wise centaur had to later create a statue in the likeness of Actaeon to soothe the dogs' grief.

Moral of the story? Don't boast you can out-hunt the goddess of the hunt and don't stumble upon her naked.
