The Charybdis Picture

According to my readings in Greek Mythology, Charybdis originally was a woman with an unsatisfied appetite. She then gets turned into a monster by either a god or a goddess; only to be underwater to suck in and shoot out water from 'it's' whirlpool-like maw. If you read or heard of 'The Oddessy', Odessius (I think I spelled it right..??) decided to go through the middle of this paticular straight, but lost the rest of his men to both Charybdis (On the left) and Scylla (On the right).
