The Ruins of Atlantis Picture

This piece was a part of an exhibition I held in Horsham, January 2008.

All the pieces were based on seafaring lore and legends and I was particularly interested in the Kraken. I also looked at the ancient mythology of mermaids, Plato's Atlantis and the superstitions of sailors.

After reading some of Plato's writings of Atlantis I was inspired to get my thoughts onto paper. The Ruins of Atlantis is much less abstract than the other pieces in the series. I wanted to basically just portray the idea of an Ancient Greek city. The underwater element is suggested by a more abstract use of circular bubbles dotted around the page. It was from this starting point that I developed my Atlantis studies.
