Daedalus and Icarus Picture

Greek Week, my friends! We are learning about ancient Greek mythology and man, am I happy. It's truly sad that i knew every myth in the Big Book O' Myths because of my lovely Ricky Riordan. But I got to be an arrogant mythology bitch...so i didn't care ^^

anyway, this story, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is my favorite. Daedalus helped Ariadne and Theseus escape through the Labyrinth, and in turn was held prisoner by King Minos, Ariadne's father. Instead of giving in to despair, Daedalus (Who just so happens to be a magnificent and brilliant inventor) he builds two pairs of wings made of feathers and beeswax. He warns his son of the dangers of flying too high, which would melt the wax and cause the wings to break, and of flying too low, in which the sea could reach up and grab him. And though Icarus promises not to, the moment they break free he soars high into the sigh--too close to the sun. his wings fall apart feather by feather and in turn he plummets to his death in the sea. Daedalus keeps flying, mourning, and settles on a distant island.
