Wacom: Amazon Picture

Okay, this is my entry for Wacom's "Bring Your Vision to Life" competition. The theme is good and evil, but please read the paragraph below?

First things first, you may have noticed that I've drawn an Amazon, a subject I'm interested in (Mythology), I've drawn her with something missing you may have noticed. Originally, Amazons were very competent archers, a prime feature of one of these ladies was the removal of one of the breasts. This was in order to be able to draw an arrow on a bow with greater ease, typically it was the right one, but I figure if you were left-dominant it'd be that one. This is something I've wanted to draw for the last five years, but it's also something I've never quite had the opportunity to do. I hope that this particular feature doesn't put anyone off the painting, I feel it's the truest representation of an Amazon.

I'm gonna talk about the theme and inspiration now, it's not necessary to read the rest of this now though XD

As for the theme, I spent a lot of time thinking about the nature of "Good" and "Evil," rather than a literal translation I decided to go along the lines of "what makes someone 'good' or 'evil'?" ... Well, I think it's relative ... Or what if your action was misinterpreted? Here the Griffon mourns the death of it's offspring, and in a fit of grief is launching an attack.

There's always two sides of the story, so that's what I tried to draw.

I acknowledge that while I depicted a more accurate Amazon, I didn't do the same for the Griffon! I think, that when I was doing this I wanted it to be a mother. After doing a bit of research I found that female animals tend to be rather drab! So I chose a single colour for her. I did embellish it with a lot of fur and feathers. I chose a Griffon, mostly because I felt I wanted something formidable but not impossible looking to defeat. While the Amazon is out powered, I don't think it's impossible for her to beat the Griffon. I loved doing the small detailing on the tail feathers though, it's a really unnoticeable embellishment but I like that it's something you notice right away!

All sketched and produced on Photoshop CS3!
Many layers and hours later!!!

Hope you all like it! I appreciate all views/ comments/ and (especially)
