Old Black Shuck Picture

It's about time I drew this guy! I owe a lot of credit to this old dog! This ma friends, is the Black Shuck, also known as Old Shuck! Teheh...Now you know where part of my name is from. Why Shuck? Let me get to it.

First off, his story, an introduction to who he is:
One of the most notable reports of Black Shuck is of his appearance at the churches of Bungay and Blythburgh in Suffolk (British Isles). On 4 August 1577, at Blythburgh, Black Shuck is said to have burst in through the church doors. He ran up the nave, past a large congregation, killing a man and boy and causing the church tower to collapse through the roof. As the dog left, he left scorch marks on the north door which can be seen at the church to this day

However, record only puts him in a bad light along with other underworld hounds/mythological dogs. I've gotten to know this great spirit as a great guard dog and has been my one of my guardians since childhood.

He can be a bad omen to men yet is a protective one to women. It has actually been recorded that black spirit dogs and old Shuck himself have helped guided lost women in the forests.

Since I was a child I had a fascination with dark/underworld hounds and dogs in mythologies. While everyone would obsess with wolves, I was always for the dogs. Then at age 9 I started working with dogs and still kinda do today. He was always with me.

When I don't feel safe, I call upon him to protect me and my loved ones.
