YGGDRASIL'S RACES I: Midgard's Primates Picture

As much as everyone thinks that the man is the only rational primate - or even the only rational and talking animal - that is where all make mistakes. There was a further evolution in the Cenozoic Era. Other primates, our acquaintances:

* Mountain Ogre (Orcopithecus troglodytes): Probably the most famous and well know variation of ogre, reported by the Ukrainian Slavs since Roman times. As its name says, mountain ogres live in the highlands, since low plateaus even the most remote Scandinavian mountains. Europe and much of Asia, corresponding to Siberia, are home these highly intelligent creatures. Its appearance resembles that of Svartalfheim's Orcs, partly because of its greenish or grayish skin and its prominent tusks, common to all ogres. Their language is very similar to the Russian and even German, caretaking a strong accent. Records during the Viking Age in the southern Sweden and the Faroe Islands registers the war skills and the powerful armor worn by great chiefs ogres: They seemed huge monsters made of metal, having horn helmets with big metal jaws shaped like dragon's teeth. Their body was covered with a steel mesh, which was covered with iron plates or bronze. In their hands, and their sharp claws, were big maces and hammers, ready to crush their enemies. It is believed that currently there are over 100 mountain ogre villages in the world, with more than 200 000 individuals in total.

* Snow Ogre (Orcopithecus glaciem): Certainly mysterious and menacing, Snow Ogres differ much from their mountain relatives for their thick and almost woolly "fur", with shades of white and dark gray, which is perfectly camouflaged with their high habitats in both mountain ranges of the Himalayas, the Alps or even the Andes. The first description of these intelligent beings was made by the ancient Sami who lived in present-day Finland, which showed a culture very similar to theirs, which ensured good relations between these people and the ogres, as well as their language. Nevertheless, they are much feared, due to the fact they are the second largest ogre variation, with almost 4 meters tall and a arm span that can embrace eight median humans. They tend to be nomadic, and there are very few recognized tribes among the just over 30 000 existent individuals.

* Gorilla (Orcopithecus - or Gorilla - gorilla/beringei): Although not usually recognized as ogres - or even as rational creatures - gorillas, called by those who really know them how Black or African Ogres, are among the most intelligent and wise creatures that exist. Their culture remarkably mysterious and unknown by most mortal men has built huge cities hidden among tall forests where most of them lives (But remember that not all the gorillas that were able to keep their cities, becoming nomads over the centuries). The first description of one of these cities and the remarkable intelligence of these ogres were recorded by a pygmy hunter from Congo, which also described the great abilities of clairvoyance and an almost familial connection with the Immortal Plans of these creatures, which have become targets of many massacres and studies imposed by the humans who would visit Africa many centuries later. Currently, black ogres are a population of 125.000 recorded by humans, but many more can be hidden in the cities.

* Aquatic/Bridge Ogre (Orcos piscibus): Relatively rare, Aquatic Ogres - or Bridge Ogres - are a bit aggressive, but timid, so as to avoid contact with men or with other ogres. His appearance is somewhat curious and striking up too much for beings who try to be discreet. Large and somewhat slender compared to other ogres, have skin covered in bluish scales, red hair and big yellow eyes that help them to see in the dark. Their oldest descriptions comes from the High Middle Ages, where peasants and nobles said to see them under bridges, threatening whoever crossed. But maybe that's not very true, as these creatures do not have much taste for meat as their relatives. Their language resembles the French with some touches of Swedish, and their culture is based on ancient shamanistic arts. Currently, there are about 12,000 of these creatures in the world, living in large air pockets inside rivers and lakes - the famous underwater caves - or even in inaccessible swamps in Europe, Asia and America, although some have been observed even in Oceania .

*Forest Ogre (Orcopithecus ferus): A bit primitive, the Forest Ogres are some of the most dangerous creatures existent, and their encounters with humans always resulted in injury or death. Your skin mottled in shades of green and brown, as well as the fact that they walk silently among the dense vegetation of tropical forests makes them very efficient predators. Males tend to be more aggressive, while females prefer to frighten intruders than kill them or even eat them. They live in isolated clans in both warm forests of Central and South America as in temperate forests in Asia, often meeting with Mountain Ogres. Their language resembles the Catalan with a slightly more aggressive tone. Luckily for the general population, these ogres are rare existing just over 8000 individuals worldwide.

* Mediterranean Ogre (Volcanorcos fabrum): After the Mountain Ogres, the Mediterranean Ogres or Cyclopes must be the most famous, as portrayed in Greco-Roman mythology as both allies and destructive forces. Despite being a community of shepherds and blacksmiths for long time in some Greek islands, even before the arrival of the Minoan civilization, these ogres tended to spread throughout the Mediterranean basin and in parts of the Sahara Desert. With the arrival of the Greeks and then the Romans, however, the Cyclopes were almost decimated. But thanks to some relations with who inhabited the Hellenic peninsula, they were able to survive the ancient world. Their language seems a mixture of Greek and Latin, due to the influence of the civilizations of the region. Currently, the Mediterranean Ogres recovered nicely, with around 30 000 individuals scattered across deserts and steppes throughout Eurasia, although most still inhabit the area correspondent to the Roman Empire. Although pastoral, the Cyclopes are excellent hunters, using the sand color skin to blend to habitat and their keen eyesight to locate prey.

* Oriental Ogre/Oni (Orcos oni): Feared and hated by all the other ogres, the Oriental Ogres or Oni beings are scary looking, considering their powerful tusks, yellow snake eyes and red skin. They inhabit almost all the Far East, from Manchuria to the most northern Japanese islands, practicing their dark arts of Ethereal Black Magic, which makes them the only ogres able to become real mages - Warlocks in the case. They feed by killing and devouring everything that approaches to their land, including humans and other ogres. Their grotesque and cruel habits make them the most dangerous creatures that inhabit the Earth after humans and their technologies. Have been created numerous forces between ogres and men to try to contain the Oni in their territories, but these demonic primates always try to escape with increasing violence, risking even more lives across the Earth. To our luck, however, the Oni are the rarest of all the ogres, with only 4000 of them in all the world.

* Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus): Like the Gorillas, Orangutans are often seen as mere animals, which would only be remarkably able to approach the human behavior in the use of tools. But at this point we already know the truth. As wise as the Black Ogres, a special group of Bornean Orangutans separated from others to live in a ancient and secret temple of over 100,000 years, built almost in a parallel dimension where the great apes of remarkable intelligence and wisdom become monks defenders of Peace and Order - the Thâng Temple, inside the forests of Borneo. Extremely agile, the monks try to teach their brethren outside the temple to join, using various incentives. Their language is very similar to Chinese, but the influence of Indonesian is naturally much higher. Nearly 55,000 of these peaceful creatures inhabit Borneo and some areas of Malaysia, distributing their positive energy to the people who need to find inner peace.

* Human (Homo sapiens): Finding themselves the owners of the Earth and everything that surrounds it, Humans emerged just over 200,000 years in Africa with the body shape that we know today, separating from all other primates, even from Chimpanzee and Ogres, kin next. These simians of few body hair - when compared to other mammals - have a large - relative to body size - brain, capable of a high reasoning compared to other irrational animals (Excluding, of course, as already mentioned Ogres, orangutans, cetaceans such as dolphins and whales and elephants, which have an intelligence and reasoning much higher than ours) as well as very high creative capacity. But one of their biggest flaws is their pride. The pride of being human, the center of the universe (which we will call here Midgard), the perfect creation of God, and a bunch of titles that current renters of the Earth should no longer accommodate more. Despite the plague of 7 billion people who are, Humans are far from comparing to many other fantastic creatures that exist around the Earth, far beyond space, in the neighboring kingdoms contained in Yggdrasil or even in some of the 26 relevant dimensions.
