It seems every culture has different ideas about the patterns in the face of the moon. Some people see a man, some people see a rabbit—one remote tribe on the island of Viruvia sees an octopus giving birth to a mermaid (it's part of their mythology, don't ask)—but these are all wrong:

The Harid of Ancient Ria was know for believing that dragons lived under the earth, and that certain mountains were their sleeping bodies. They held that one of these dragons sleeps on the moon, to prevent it from crashing into the earth.

There is actually some truth in this last legend; though they got it a bit wrong.

Adain hasn't had to prevent the moon crashing into the earth since she made the thing, a few billion years ago.
