Greek-Georgian Friendship Picture

According to the Greek mythology, Colchis (Ancient Georgia) was a fabulously wealthy land situated on the mysterious periphery of the heroic world. Here in the sacred grove of the war god Ares, King Ae√ętes hung the Golden Fleece until it was seized by Jason and the Argonauts.

The Greek diaspora in Georgia is estimated at 20,000 people. Hellenic presence in Georgia, specifically in its western part (ancient Colchis), is attested to the 7th century BC, as part of the Old Greek Diaspora and has traditionally been concentrated in the Black Sea coast.
