Narcissus Picture

GOD. I HATE MY SCANNER. IT WASHED OUT THE WHOLE THING.

AND I CAN ONLY HOPE I PUT THIS IN THE RIGHT CATEGORY.
For
In case you can't tell, or are extremely stupid, this is
Narcissus, sitting in the pool, thinning, wasteing away as he stares at his own reflection. Near him, amongst the faded vegetation in the background, are the narcissus flowers on the bank.
HE IS AN ELF NARCISSUS.

I love this mythological tale... because... well... it reminds me to not get too vain... I already have developed NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) and am very much in love with myself, but it's nice to draw and watercolor pencil a scene like this.

Anyways, here's the story:
Narcissus was said to be so beautiful, that all living beings fell in love with him as he passed. He was so beautiful, he was envyed by many and was... stuck up. He was to never see his own reflection.
One day, as he was traveling through the woods and being following by his most adoring fan, a nymph named Echo, he stopped at a pond to drink. Echo was cursed, and could only mutter the last word she heard, and was unable to help Narcissus snap out of his trance as he stared into his reflection and fell in love with it before he could drink. He sat there forever, wasting away, and so did Echo, until she was nothing but a voice.
Narcissus continued to stare until all that was left was the beautiful narcissus flower.

How sad.

Watercolor pencil, 8 x 11 paper, 30 minutes.

Thirty minutes?!?! I know, that's what I thought, too. Would have been done quicker if I didn't try to make it darker so it wouldn't wash out so much when it was scanned.

Narcissus is a greek or roman myth... don't really remember. O.o
