Pantheon - Hades Picture

Hades - God of the Underworld. The ruler of the Dead, and the possessor of riches. Since precious stones and metals come from under ground, it was thought that they belonged to Hades. He married Demeter's daughter, Persephone, and possessed a three-headed dog, Cerberus which acted as the guardian of the entrance to the Underworld. Unlike most would believe, Hades was never seen as evil, merely grim. His worshippers would always avert their eyes when making sacrifices to him. He was mostly faithful, and when he once took another lover, Persephone grew so jealous she turned the nymph, Minthe, into the herb, Mint.
