From Wikipedia: The banshee, from Irish: bean sí [bʲæn ˈʃiː] ("woman of the barrows") is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the underworld.
In legend, a banshee is a fairy woman who begins to wail if someone is about to die. In Scottish Gaelic mythology, she is known as the bean sìth or bean nighe and is seen washing the bloodstained clothes or armour of those who are about to die. Alleged sightings of banshees have been reported as recently as 1948. Similar beings are also found in Welsh, Norse and Amercian folklore.
Dimension: The Land of the Dead
The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears, for there's no risk of accident for someone who is already dead." -Albert Einstein
The Land of the Dead, despite what most people would think, is a place full of parties and celebrations. Think of it as Día de Muertos or the Day of the Dead celebrated by many Mexicans and other Hispanic cultures. The beings that reside in the Land of the Dead are always partying and celebrating, mostly for the people who enter the Land of the Dead (through various reasons of course). Pretty much almost everything in the Land of the Dead is opposite of the Land of the Living. The dead feast like normal living beings, however are much more kind and friendly than you might expect. They are full of laughter and good times. The animals are walking skeletons but also rather friendly. Those animals that still slightly look like cute creatures are rather ferocious and misdemeaning.
Eternal Sonata- Between Light and Darkness
"Life is for the living. Death is for the dead. Let life be like music. And death a note unsaid." -Langston Hughes.
Charlette is what you would call a sweetheart. She is kind, optimistic as well as openly curious, but not too curious as to ask people about everything. She is slightly reserved and quiet, speaking up when something catches her curiosity. After all, she has never been outside of The Land of the Dead before. Also, because she has lived in The Land of the Dead for so long, she isn’t the least bit phased of generic scary things. She is thoughtful and isn’t one to do much fighting unless it is necessary.
There is one thing that does scare Charlette the most, and it is not something that you would expect someone to be scared of. Charlette is scared of cute objects. This could range from bunnies to your typical adorable smallish human being. Let's just say Charlette had a terrifying experience with a cute dog and bunny. Both chopped her hand off and she had to run after it for so long. Sewing it back together was no problem, not really messy since dead people don't bleed anymore. She hides the stitches with her lily corsage. Charlette calls the adorable creatures "disgusting" and "absolutely dreadfull".
Charlette, despite being so kind and sweet, will put herself down if something were to happen to her close friends. She will start to become depressed and not talk as much to others usually becoming guarded and retracting into a shell. Her silence can last from weeks to months if nothing is done about it.
There is a reason why Charlette doesn't like to be around blood so much. With just a little bit of blood within her general view she will start to hyperventilate and freak out. However, when she is exposed to large amounts of blood, the smell and the color will set off a sort of "berserk button" inside of her. She will go into a murderous rampage and cause pain and havoc to whoever is nearby her. You can be her best friend or lover but it will not stop her from causing chaos. This rampage will usually last around half an hour or even shorter if you can somehow get her to calm down but the damage is still vast. In this way, she will retract back into herself and blame herself for all she's done. Telling people to keep away because she thinks of herself as a monster.
"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slighted inconvenience from it." -Mark Twain
Before Charlette was known as the Haunting Damsel, as many of the dead people called her where she lives now. Charlette was known as Charlette Ó Briains, a young girl who lived during the Victorian Era. Her father was a rather successful businessman and her mother was a stay-at-home who spent most of her time tending to the white lilies in the gardens behind their estate. Charlette spent most of her time home as well, as it was customary back then for girls to stay home and learn things like needlework or etiquette while the boys went to school.
On her 18th birthday, Charlette was to be wed to a young and honest tailor, who’s family was also rather successful. Her father saw this as a way to increase their income and become the richest family in all of England. Charlette and the tailor got married and were together for about a week. Though Charlette’s simplistic yet enjoyable life ended so quickly. One night, Charlette was killed. A pair of scissors to the chest. Simple yet clever. The culprit was never found due to the fact that no one was with Charlette when the murder happened and technology back then wasn’t as advanced. People mourned and Charlette the banshee was born in the Land of the Dead.
In the Land of the Dead, Charlette lost most of her memories due to being “reborn”. She paid no mind to this, she suspected that she must have had a good life when she was alive. The dead beings that lived in the Land of the Dead held a big party to welcome her as well as anyone else who died on the same day.
It is customary for all dead beings to be given a job,, usually to help bring purpose back into her life. Considering that Charlette couldn't remember who exactly she was save her name, she was given the job as a banshee to help lead the dearly departed into the Land of the Dead. This job is of high importance as it helps keep the dead beings from living in purgatory for so long. Traveling to the Land of the Living would usually prove some difficulty to dead people. However, thanks to Death, he was able to grant the banshees life energy, a sort of element to help the dead, or banshees in this case, travel between said dimensions. Charlette as well as other phantom girls assigned to this role would usually do this nonstop with the occasional break as the girls would switch off. Wouldn't want to work them to death AGAIN right? Hahahahaha....
Charlette was able to develop a way to use magic and phase into a solid human being due to practicing magic with a dead sorcerer. This may have taken her a couple centuries to get used to, but Charlette was able to handle the basics plus a bit more. However, it still takes away a good deal of her life energy.
While leading an old man to the Land of the Dead, the man told her of how he wished to have traveled just one more time on the World Train. This sparked Charlette’s curiosity and she began to ask the man questions about this said “World Train”. The old man began to fill her head of fantasies and adventures. However, a banshee travelling among the living would be a dangerous thing as her life energy comes from the Land of the Dead. However, that didn't stop her, with the help of her dead sorcerer master and a blacksmith, they were able to fashion a lampstand that would carry Charlette's life energy (in other words her soul) and make her able to walk among the living. Charlette was excited when she found the World Train, boarded it and began the next chapter in her life.
-Phasing through solid objects
-Can solidify just so she doesn’t phase through things
-Various dark magic spells (see Moveset section)
-Makes rather good tea
-Cannot overuse her magic for it drains her energy
-Once she solidifies, she is prone to injury and can get hurt
-Her lantern cannot leave her side or else she will die. It carries her soul after all
Weapons: Lantern staff and scissors
Basic Lantern Swinging Attacks
-Charlette will swing her lantern at anyone who dares come near. As it is made out of metal and has a sharp pointy end, she can either stab someone with the pointy end of her staff or hit someone with her large lantern. Because of its magical properties it will not break. Kind of puts a whole new meaning to "put your heart and soul into it!"
-After harnessing her magic, Charlette is able to manipulate the shadows around her. With the mutter of an incantation she can make the shadows grab at her opponent/target and temporarily immobilize them. However, her magic is weak to sunlight (cause dark magic, duh) and the shadows will disappear when near a light source.
Ghost Fire Ball
-Charlette is able to shoot a fire ball out of her lantern and towards her opponent. The fire is deadly and very, VERY hot. Though the heat doesn't bother Charlette because she's well... Dead. It is able to follow its opponent until it is disrupted or hit by another object.
-With the opening of her mouth, Charlette can emit a supersonic scream that will either temporarily paralyze her opponents or render them unconscious if the scream is loud enough.
-Pair of scissors
-She walks around barefoot
-The wisp that surrounds her lamp started following her because it was attracted to the light that emitted from her soul.
-Her hair floats!
-Charlette wears a lily corsage on her wrist.
-Lilies symbolize the inoccence in the soul of the departed
-Banshees are characterized by their red, green, black or white clothing as well as a grey hood.
-Banshees originate from Irish folklore.
-Ó Briains is the last name that is said to be the family that the leader of the banshees follows
-If you take off Charlette's top, you can see the stab wound where the scissors were. However, its no longer bleeding so its just a gaping hole.
Pet: The tiny wisp that surrounds her lamp.
Charlette: Ah! Come on in! *opens the door to her train cart and sits them down on a table* Just a wait a bit while I go and get the teapot ready. *lightly glides over to the area of her room where a hotplate is already set up* Technology is amazing don't you think? Being able to heat up things without having to start a fire. *sets the teapot on top of the hotplate and glides back to the tiny table, sitting herself down elegantly* Now. What is it that you needed to talk to me about?
She thought back to the wintery wonderland and smiled a bit. "Bellelica was amazing. I've never seen so before... It was so beautiful. Well, as far as I know." Charlette laughed sheepishly then quieted down a bit, thinking back to her past life. Had she seen snow before? She couldn't remember a thing from before she died. Though enough on depressing stuff like that. "Uncomfortable?" The banshee raised an eyebrow at Matthew. "I mean, other than the floating islands and people, everything seems perfectly fine to me. It's not like we'll get hurt or something."
