Caliban the Fish Man Picture

Caliban here can be many things. He can be the deformed, son of a witch fish man from Shakespeare's The Tempest. Here, though, he is simply named after said fish man and is, in fact, my homage to the Creature of the Black Lagoon, my second favorite Universal Monster.

And, as almost every thing I draw and write is connected somehow, Caliban is featured in a story I'm working on. This story includes homages to all the universal monsters: several vampire characters (including the main character, who, like Angel or Spike from BtVS, has a soul while allowing the other vampires to be evil, souless monsters. I'm not fond of Anne Rice's depiction of vamps), quite a few werewolves (one of which is named Talbot, the Wolf Man's last name, as well as having the disease work both like the famous movie and legend), a frankenstein's monster-like sentient undead creature named Countenance (if you read the book you'd get that joke), a mummy or two, and an invisible man/phantom (named Crimson Crow. There's a pic somewhere in my gallery).

Caliban lives on my fictional Island of Athena, guarding the entrance to the Temple of Poseidon. Athena and Poseidon were often at odds and, according to my addition to Greek mythology, the temple was built there on the goddess's secret island as a truce. It holds several artifacts from Greek mythology, such as the armor of Achilles, Heracle's lion skin, and the helmet, shield, and sandals of Perseus. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you are not a mythology nerd.
