Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty Picture

This was one of my very first Greek Goddesses from the Roman Lady game. She was the easiest to make, and everyone knows her by her Roman name; Venus. (I actually based my planetary Venus picture after this one). She often makes me think of Valentine's Day, with pink hearts, hence the pink robe she wears.

Aphrodite is featured in many myths about her many lovers, though in the greatest irony ever, she was married to the ugliest and most conservative of the 12 Olympians, Hephaestus, god of the Forge.

In other mythologies and pantheons, every female goddess who represents beauty and love is often said to be the foreign equivalent of Aphrodite. It's possible, with all the trading the Greeks did, that other religions in the Mediterranean region were influenced by one another. You can see similarities between the Greek/Roman myths and, say, the Egyptians, for example.

Anyway, one of my favorite myths involves Aphrodite's son, Eros (AKA Cupid), and Psyche, his beloved. It's the basis of many romantic fairy-tales, including "East of the Sun, West of the Moon," and "Beauty & the Beast."
