In most versions of the tale, they say that Hades tricked the innocent Persephone into eating pomegranate seeds so that she would have to stay in the underworld for a portion of every year.

However, one telling of the myth is that Persephone truly fell in love with Hades, and ate the seeds on purpose so that she would be able to return to his side every winter for the rest of eternity.

I love this myth, I think these two might be the only couple from Greek mythology that wasn't wracked by affairs . . .
