Atalanta Picture

In Greek mythology, a renowned and swift-footed huntress, probably a parallel and less important form of the goddess Artemis (the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, and vegetation, and of chastity and childbirth, identified by the Romans with Diana).

The main idea for this piece came from a story I heard about the goddess: She decided she would never marry any man, except the one who could beat her at a race. Many tried, but all failed, until one day. She was finally defeated by a god/hero (you'll have to help me on that one, I can't remember who he was) and married him. How? During the race, he dropped apples made of gold on her path and her feminine nature forced her to stop and pick them up, which eventually made her lose the race.
Edit: Inicially I thought this was the story of Artemis, but *Mehrunnisa enlightened me, so I changed the title and description. This is the story of Atalanta, and it was Hippomenes who won the race, thanks to the help of Aphrodite.
