Atalanta Picture

I was on this website, [link]
And I'm totally addicted! lol
I decided to do a series on the top fermale Olympians from Greek Mythology.

This is Atalanta. Okay, so no she's not a goddess, she's mortal. But I do love her story;
she's abandoned by her father who wanted a son, and is found by Artemis, who gives her to a she-bear who raises Atalanta like her own cub. And, in the course of time, Artemis takes her back to meet her father after her she-bear mother is killed by a hunter. Naturally, she is angry, and refuses to show any emotion but hostility towards a father that tried to kill her. But now he is old, and wiser, and has truly seen the error of his former foolish ways. He promises her any husband she desires. She doesn't want to get married, but has to, and decides to marry the man who can beat her at her best skill; running. She decides to hold a race, where she will also be competing, and if anyone can beat her, she'll marry him. A man named Melanion (or Hippomenes) falls in love with her, (thank you Cupid) and beseeches Aphrodite for help, knowing he cannot win the race, and for losing will die. Aphrodite gives him 3 golden apples, and tells him to drop them in front of Atalanta when he's losing in the race. He does so, and every time he does drop an apple, Atalanta stops and goes to pick up the apples, and after chasing the apples off the track for so long, she looses and Melanion wins, and they end up happily married, she even ended up laughing with delight after hearing about his brilliant plan.

Oh, and I don't think she actually wore jewelry in the original story, but I really wanted something to symbolize her royal heritage and her interest in the golden apples, so I chose the bracelets. I think it seems to fit.
I hope you like it!
