Fright and Faries- Amaterasu Picture

Amaterasu, a fairy? Yeah, I know they are not a fairy, more like a fairytale, but that still counts... right?

I tried to incorporate a Japanese/ Korean fairy to Aep' Sol, but I couldn't find any. I instead focused on the Yokai and deities of Asian culture, one of which was White Wolf Amaterasu.

Now, most of you know this White Wolf as the character from the game 'Okami', right? Well, Amaterasu was actually a God, or more accurately, a Sun Deity. The oldest tales of Amaterasu come from the ca. 680 AD Kojiki and ca. 720 AD Nihon Shoki, the oldest records of Japanese history. In Japanese mythology, Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, is the sister of Susano, the god of storms and the sea, and of Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon. It was written that Amaterasu had painted the landscape with her siblings to create ancient Japan (which links to the game). All three were born from Izanagi, when he was purifying himself after entering Yomi, the underworld, after failing to save Izanami. Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed out his left eye.
She became the ruler of the sun and the heavens along with her brother, Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon and ruler of the night. Originally, Amaterasu shared the sky with Tsukuyomi, her husband and brother until, out of disgust, he killed the goddess of food, Uke Mochi, when she... pulled food from her rectum, among other places. This killing upset Amaterasu causing her to label Tsukuyomi an evil god and split away from him; separating night from day.
A long-standing rivalry between Amaterasu and her other brother, Susano. When he was to leave Heaven by orders of Izanagi, he went to bid his sister goodbye. Amaterasu was suspicious, but when Susano proposed a challenge to prove his sincerity, she accepted. Each of them took an object of the other's and from it birthed gods and goddesses. Amaterasu birthed three women from Susano's sword while he birthed five men from her necklace. Claiming the gods were hers because they were born of her necklace, and the goddesses were his, she decided that she had won the challenge, as his item produced women. The two were content for a time, but her brother became restless and went on a rampage, destroying Amaterasu's rice fields, hurling a flayed pony at her loom, and killing one of her attendants in a fit of rage. Amaterasu, who was in fury and grief, hid inside the Ama-no-Iwato ("heavenly rock cave"), thus effectively hiding the sun for a long period of time. Though she was persuaded to leave the cave, Susano was punished by being banished from Heaven. Both later amended their conflict when Susano gave her the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi sword as a reconciliation gift.

Of course, Amaterasu was not actually a white wolf. I have two reasons for portraying her in wolf forme.

1) Humans do not exist in this world, so I presume that Amaterasu would not look like her human-based counterpart. Wolf Pokemon exist, so it seemed safe to lean back on the white wolf approach.

2) People will more easily recognize the Amaterasu from the game, rather than her actual forme. It may of caused some confusion if I drew Amaterasu in humanoid forme, even if the canon allowed it.

Aep' Sol found it quite easy to make himself look this way. His winter coat is already growing in, so he just had to use some sticky tree sap to style it. He curled his fur in some places, and ruffled it all up. He also styled the 'ears' on his head. He added some white fiber extensions to his left arm and tail to create the wispy, long fur. A red, Berry-based paint was applied around the eyes, head and torso as part of the design. The paint nearly dripped into his eyes, so he is squinting them to keep the paint out.

I was going to do a Kelpie, but that didn't seem to fit into Aep' Sol's character, as he is mainly Asian (and a bit o' French in there). I also considered the Tanuki, but it just didn't seem as interesting. Amaterasu seems to fit Aep' Sol quite well, as he enjoys painting and loves lying in the sun outdoors. He is quite kind to people also.
