Persephone Picture

Line art- done in 2HB pencil, then inked in Sakura Pigma Micron 005 & 01.

I will probably do a follow up on this in colour, but I think it can be appreciated just as well (or maybe even more so) in black and white form. I was hesitant to do any sort of shading in pen, so I took it as a sign from the gods that it should remain as is.

Greek Mythology- Persephone, goddess of springtime (and later queen of the Underworld), daughter of Demeter (earth deity) and Zeus. Hades desired her, opened the earth under her feet, and kidnapped her, bringing her into the earth with him. While there she was tricked into taking a bite of pomengranate, and so had to remain with Hades for part of the year, returning to her mother in the spring. The months that she resides in the Underworld Demeter mourns the loss of her daughter, letting the earth grow cold and the plants to die. Thus, winter arrives.
