In Ancient Egyptian mythology, the All-Devourer is a beast of the Underworld that awaits all human spirits in the Chamber of Truth. After many trials and tests which led the deceased to this final chamber, the spirit's heart is weighed, on a scale, against a feather belonging to the goddess of Truth. Should the spirit's heart be equal or lighter to the Feather, the soul is allowed to pass on to the rich, green fields of the Afterlife. Should the heart fall heavier than the Feather, the spirit meets an untimely end. They are consumed whole by the Beast, the All-Devourer - and become no more.
