Tree of Life Picture

Many myths I find around the world feature very special or sacred trees. I suppose something about these massive, tall organism spark awe and inspiration in people. They are intrinsically tied into the concept of life itself, whether we consider the notion of a family tree or appreciate the resources they provide us.

This image is a part of my mythology-based series that views the tree as a pillar of support for the earth, in near literal fashion. Unfortunate for online viewing, it is one of my pieces that would be best viewed in person, otherwise you miss the sparkle of the salt crystals I used to create texture. It really adds a bit of life that a still image just can't quite capture.
