Leannan Sidhe Picture

A figure in celtic mythology, the Leannan Sidhe (pron. Lennan Shee) is a member of the fairy folk who seeks the love of a mortal. If the mortal accepts her love, he becomes her slave, but if he rejects her she becomes his. Lovers of the Leannan Sidhe were said to live short but very inspired lives. In effect, she is a muse. My muse.

This painting was inspired by the words of a traditional song: "where Lagan stream sings lullaby, there blows a lily fair / the twilight gleam is in her eye, the night is on her hair / and like some lovesick leannan sidhe, she hath my heart in thrall / nor life I owe, nor liberty / for love is lord of all."
