This Ship, Hel. Picture

Having a figurehead on a ship would represent the name of that ship. Hel is a Norse god of death ruling the realm of the same name (Hel).
The piece strays from concept and is more a reflection on siren mythology.

The painting was done crisply and details were blurred after completion, as a friend noted, being underwater messes with your depth of field.

Painted in Photoshop CS3

Updated 19 October 2009: Fixed a few things that were bugging me.

Updated 22 January 2010: Lighting dramatised, decay and fungal details pushed, barnacles added.

I really feel I should mention the brush pack by `adonihs I use more than any now. It's basically revolutionised painting in Photoshop for me.
