Gorgon Maiden Picture

Here we have a charming gorgon maiden. (While the term "medusa" is also used to describe snake-haired women, Medusa was actually the proper name of a specific gorgon who was famously slain by Perseus.) Legend states that gorgons have the ability to turn others to stone, though stories differ on whether or not this is something the gorgon can control. In my own stories, I prefer to think that they can, and that a gorgon can choose to use her powers for good. This idea is supported by the ancient Grecian tradition of putting a gorgoneion (the image of a gorgon's face) on objects as a charm to ward off evil.

So, yeah, there's your little tidbit of Grecian mythology for the day. You're welcome.
