My friend came over from Thailand the other day brought me back some made-for-TV movies on DVD. The first one I popped in was Armand Assante's The Odyssey, and, though flawed, it appealed to my latent love for Greek mythology. Perhaps not so coincidentally, I was on AOL with my friend talking about the misunderstood monsters of the genre - how few of them have any redeeming qualities outside of their frightening ugliness. In Polyphemus' defense, he couldn't help being born a cyclops, even if he did have that creepy desire for human flesh.

This, perhaps, is a requiem.
